SOMETHING OTHER

An empty house, a selection of masks and the female figure. This is an appropriate first image for the opening gallery as this was one of my first attempts to photograph a woman without clothes. I was fortunate that the woman in question is an excellent model - full of ideas and with a wonderful selection of masks. Other good images also emerged, but this was the one which worked best. In a moment when inspiration had totally deserted me, she suggested the shape. It evolved into the final image later in the darkroom. Careful printing reduces the picture to its essential elements and disguises the fact that it was shot in the middle of the afternoon in a sunny room. I took the title from a book I was reading at the time by Laurens Van Der Post. Being deceased, he probably won't mind.
